Day 2 - The Spirit Recreates
In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and then ask for the grace to follow Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).
Isaiah 32:15-17 (NLT)
15 until at last the Spirit is poured out on us from heaven. Then the wilderness will become a fertile field, and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops. 16 Justice will rule in the wilderness and righteousness in the fertile field. 17 And this righteousness will bring peace. Yes, it will bring quietness and confidence forever.
Romans 8:19-23 (NLT)
19 For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. 20 Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, 21 the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. 22 For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.
The prophet Isaiah spoke of a time of peace and life to come for God’s people. When the Spirit of God is poured out from heaven in full, God’s righteous and just reign will also come. Toil and oppression will be replaced with peace and confidence forever. This is in fact what all of creation is longing for and looking forward to, that day when death and decay is no more, and we are released from sin and suffering. The Kingdom of God that is coming is one of beauty and life where the rule and reign of God will bring His peace, justice and joy. How amazing that day will be! Still even today, the Holy Spirit in us is a taste of that future glory. If you believe and have confessed that Jesus Christ is Lord then that Spirit is in you; God’s reign and peace is available to you today by the work of His Spirit in your life.
What about God’s coming Kingdom is most exciting to you? What are you most looking forward to that God will do? When was the last time you experienced the Spirit of God giving you peace?
Spend a moment considering that the Spirit of God is in you, then thank God for that amazing reality. Also spend some time praising and thanking God for what He will do when Jesus returns and His Kingdom is established. Lastly, take some time to remind of friend who also knows Jesus of what an amazing hope and future we have in Christ.
