Day 46 - the Spirit empowers us to boldly make disciples
In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and give thanks for the Holy Spirit that is empowering you to walk with Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).
Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)
19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
This is our mission as followers of Jesus. We are called to bring people to Jesus and see them become more like Him. We are to make disciples, baptize them, and teach them. Some have suggested that the word “go” can be translated “as you go.” So this happens as we go about our normal everyday life. God has placed us in the families, communities, workplaces, neighborhoods and schools exactly as He wants us to be. Disciple-making isn’t something we do only at important times or in specific places. It is the all the time mission that we are on every place we find ourselves.
You are where you are today to see lost people come to know greatest news in all the world of how God loves us, saves us in Jesus, gives us His righteousness and the forgiveness of sin. The Lord desires for you to share in the joy of others coming to know Him and being baptized as followers of Him. God has given you the relationships you have in order to see others taught how to follow Jesus and walk with Him.
He is with you.
This is not something we do in our own power or ability. He is and will be with us each step of the way. His Spirit is empowering us to live out this mission together. This is the great purpose of your life that Christ has saved you for. There is not one person in your life today too far gone to be transformed by the life-changing love and grace of the Father that comes to us through Jesus Christ. How will your words and life speak about Jesus as you go today?
Where is your “as you go?” Where has God placed you or given you influence? Who needs Jesus there? How is God sending you to make disciples?
Praise God for the great purpose and mission He has given us. Ask Him to teach you to see the places you go to as He sees them, to open your eyes to the opportunities He is giving you to make disciples. Spend some time in quiet before the Lord and invite Him to speak to you regarding specific ways He wants to use you. Write down or share with someone else anything the Lord is telling you to do for accountability and ask for His Spirit to empower you to walk faithfully in what He has shown you.
