Day 5 - scripture is Spirit breathed
In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and then ask for the grace to follow Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).
2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
2 Peter 1:21 (NIV)
21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
From the beginning and throughout the history of God’s people, spanning thousands of years, the Spirit of God has been actively involved in the recording and telling of God’s story in the writing of Scripture. When the prophets spoke God’s word to His people the Spirit of God was present at work through them, carrying them along. When Scripture was recorded for those who would come after, again the Spirit of God was present, as if the very words were being breathed out by God Himself. And the same Holy Spirit takes the truth of God’s Word and makes it profitable even today for teaching, reproof, correction and training in righteousness.
How should we think about the Bible, knowing that the eternal Spirit of God was involved in the writing of it? How often or regularly are you reading God’s Word and allowing His Spirit to speak to you through it?
Take a moment and thank God for His Word. Praise Him for the work of the Holy Spirit in the writing of all Scripture. End your time with God by memorizing 2 Timothy 3:16 or choose another verse to memorize if the Spirit of God is leading you to commit a different one to memory. Set an alarm for later in the day to recall the verse and then share it with a friend.
