Day 4 - The Spirit is Everywhere

In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and then ask for the grace to follow Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).

Psalm 139:1-7 (NLT)

1 O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. 2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. 3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. 5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! 7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!

God is omnipresent. Since God is spirit, He is not restricted by space like His creation is. The Spirit of God is ever present and with us. There’s no where we can hide from God. Like the psalmist says, such knowledge is incredible, too great for us to even fully understand. We serve a God who is not distant or far off, but fully aware of everything we are going through and present with us in it. The Spirit of God knows us fully. Nothing is secret or unknown, and still God loves us. While that should cause us to revere and worship God, we have no reason to fear God even though He knows our brokenness completely. Jesus is the answer to that brokenness, and we learned yesterday that the same Spirit who is ever with us and aware of us is the One who makes known to us the good news of what Jesus has done for us. Like a loving Father, He places His hand of blessing on our head and is intimately involved in our lives for our good.

Are there any ways that you have been trying to run or hide from God? Are there times in your life where it is hard to believe that God was there with you?

Knowing that God is with you right now, take a moment of silent prayer and invite God to speak to you by His Spirit. End your time of prayer by thanking God for how He has been present by His Spirit in every part of your life and intimately involved for your good.
