Day 6 - the Spirit empowering God’s people (OT) - Joseph

In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and give thanks for the Holy Spirit that is empowering you to walk with Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).

Genesis 41:38-40 (NLT)

38 So Pharaoh asked his officials, “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?” 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. 40 You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.”

Joseph’s story is filled with incredible suffering, injustice and loss, yet he remains faithful to God through it all. After being sold into slavery by his own family and then imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit, Joseph is brought before Pharaoh to interpret two dreams. The reason he’s been given this opportunity is because of how God has been able to use him already in prison. The Spirit of God gives Joseph the wisdom and intelligence to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams, and Joseph discerns that a severe, seven-year famine is coming to all of Egypt. This allows Egypt to prepare for the famine. God has brought Joseph through so much to get to this point, and His suffering is not wasted. We see God using him to save many lives. It’s amazing to see God use Joseph in such a significant way that no one else could have foreseen. Even Pharaoh recognizes that it’s the work of the Spirit of God in Joseph’s life, not his own ability or faithfulness that has empowered Joseph for such a great task.

Is there any suffering or injustice that you’ve endured that God is now using to help others? Where is God calling you to be faithful with little so that He can use you for a greater impact later? Who are the people and where are the places that God has brought you to in order to bring life to others?

Praise God for how He has brought you through suffering and for how all He is still yet to do. Pray for those that God is bringing His life and salvation to through you. End with prayers of thanksgiving for how the Spirit of God is giving wisdom and power for you to live for Him today!
