Day 13 - the Spirit in the life of Jesus
In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and give thanks for the Holy Spirit that is empowering you to walk with Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).
Luke 4:14-15 (NLT)
14 Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region. 15 He taught regularly in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.
John 3:31-36 (NLT)
31 “He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else. 32 He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them! 33 Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true. 34 For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves his Son and has put everything into his hands. 36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”
Jesus is full of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit’s power. John says that Jesus has been given the Spirit without limit. How does this impact our understanding of Jesus’ life? One way that we see here is that He teaches and speaks the words of God. The same Spirit that fills and leads Jesus, who was present and at work in Jesus’ birth, is now at work in all that Jesus says. What should our response be to such words? It is to believe in Jesus, God’s Son, who we see working with the Father and the Spirit to bring us eternal life. We are invited to receive in faith the testimony of Jesus as true, this Jesus who has come from heaven, is filled with the Spirit and makes God known to us.
What do you believe about Jesus? What is the difference between God’s words spoken in the Spirit’s power and words spoken from ourselves and in our own power? How does the Spirit want to speak through you today?
As worship confess out loud what you believe about Jesus, and praise God for revealing this truth to you and giving you faith to believe it. Thank Him for eternal life - everlasting and from God that starts with faith in Jesus and will continue throughout eternity, allowing us to know and have relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit forever. Ask God if there is anyone He has placed in your life for you to share the gospel with. Pray for a chance to invite that person to come church this Easter and for an opportunity to have a spiritual conversation with them afterward.
