Day 11 - the Spirit in the life of Jesus
In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and give thanks for the Holy Spirit that is empowering you to walk with Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).
Luke 1:31-35 (NLT)
31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David 33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” 34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.” 35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.
The time has come. The events that begin to unfold with Mary were planned before the world’s foundations were even laid. The same Holy Spirit that hovered over the waters at creation is at work here in Mary’s life.God, the 2nd person of the Trinity, will enter into the world He created and take on flesh so as to be the God Man! Through Jesus’ spotless life, atoning death and victorious resurrection, God will bring salvation to the world. Though these events from Jesus life may be familiar to us, what may not be is how clearly and intentionally the Holy Spirit is at work throughout the life of Jesus. We see both the Spirit and the Father working here in Jesus’ birth, one God in three Persons. This week as we look at the life of Jesus, may the familiarity of what God has done be taken in anew. May faith explode in our hearts and thanksgiving erupt from our depths as worship to the Triune God for how great His amazing grace truly is.
How does it impact you to think that the same Holy Spirit that works miracles such as the birth of Jesus is also at work in your life in very specific and powerful ways?
Spend some time worshipping the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for how you see the God at work here in the birth of Jesus. Thank the Triune God for the great plan He has been orchestrating throughout history to bring salvation to the world. Pray for an opportunity to share the good news of what God has done with someone who doesn’t know Him. If God brings someone to mind, pray for them by name.
